Parenting: How hard can it be?
Being a parent comes with its unique responsibilities. It is the most arduous task to ever sign in for – frustrating, emotional, overwhelming and definitely crazy. The only job in the world that comes without a job description but somehow nature hands you the Terms of Reference. You are left with no choice; you don’t think about it, you just do it. Sometimes it means giving up your lifestyle, career, friends, relationship and concentrating on the most important thing in your life – your child. It demands an enormous amount of patience, commitment and time, often making it impossible to balance work, social and other aspects of life. But try as you may you’re always wrong yet you don’t just drop it half way, you keep trying until you are given that dearest award “the best”.
When people moan and groan about how they are not cut out for the job, it sounds cynical to say the least. Before you hold your baby I agree, but once you cuddle your child in your arms for the first time, it’s awesome. The feeling is unimaginable; the rush of excitement and love that flows through you for that tiny being is almost unreal.
No one path is “right” yet everyone is an expert in raising their children whether biological or adopted. Of course you are allowed to speak out, scream, cry if it becomes unbearable because no one is innately prepared for it; never mind what you're told. You learn on the job and develop amazing skills, skills you never knew you had. Qualities that’ll make you look back and think how did I do it? So scrub in and quit whining.
